Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators iare one of the most popular aesthetic or anti-ageing treatments world wide. It was even first discovered as a therapeutic treatment by a Canadian physician. Not long after treatments were begun, an anti-wrinkle effect was seen which soon became an internationally desired treatment.

Neuromodulators work by taking action on muscle receptors. It is different from injectable dermal fillers in that it doesn’t provide lost volume but stops muscles from creating or worsening fine lines and wrinkles. The effects of this treatment typically last 3-4 months. Some people will get better results with one brand of neuromodulator over another so it is best to find out which brand works best for your body.

At The Helix Clinic we utilize multiple brands of neuromodulators when injecting for fine lines and wrinkles.

We also offer therapeutic neuromodulator injections for hyperhidrosis (underarms, hands, and feet), TMJ issues, and migraines. This can also be covered by many benefit plans and direct billed at the clinic.

Injectable Fillers

As we age we lose volume, especially in the lips, cheeks, and under eye areas. This can be corrected through the use of dermal fillers. The goal of our injectors is to provide a naturally balanced looking face to help you age gracefully.

Common Areas Treated with Dermal Filler:

  • Lips

  • Cheeks

  • Under Eye

  • Nasolabial Lines

  • Hollowing Temples

  • Jawline

  • Fine Lines.

The two most common forms of dermal fillers are non-permanent and permanent. Hyaluronic acid fillers, non-permanent, are commonly used in medispa facilities to achieve volume restoration and anti-ageing goals. Calcium fillers are considered permanent because they do not naturally dissolve over time. They remain within the body unlike hyaluronic acid based fillers.

Belkyra

Belkyra™ is an acid that is naturally produced in the gut to target fat. It disrupts the cell membranes and when it is injected into areas where we want to reduce the fat, it triggers the body to take away the damaged cells and clear them from the body. It does this through the lymphatic system. In essence, it damages the fat cells and the body clears them from the system leaving behind a reduced number of fat cells in the area.

On average patients require 2-4 treatments. The treatment can feel hot, and there is swelling in the area which can last for a few months and the swelling can be large. Icing can help reduce the swelling and the duration.

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is a non-surgical advanced microneedling and radio frequency treatment. As we age, our skin begins to lose elasticity, form wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin starts appear. Using radiofrequency, the Morpheus8 treatment stimulates collagen production to tighten and smooth wrinkles on the face and body. Morpheus8 comfortably penetrates the skin at a deeper level than other microneedling treatments, transforming your complexion and restoring more youthful facial skin.

Morpheus8 is versatile. It can be used on any area of the body that can benefit from collagen renewal. The most common areas include the lower face and neck. Areas with challenges such as acne scarring or discoloration can also be treated with Morpheus8.

Patients should expect some redness for up to 48 hours after. As well they should moisturize the treatment area and avoid direct sun exposure. It is also recommended that patients use a good, broad spectrum sunscreen every day. In addition to reducing their future risk of skin cancer, sunscreen also reduces wrinkles and slow the aging process.

Microneedling

The Helix Clinic offers the Eclipse Evo micro-needling pen, a Health Canada Approved device, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). The skin is considered the largest organ of the body and has the amazing ability to heal and regenerate if given the opportunity. If stimulated, it can produce collagen and elastin which helps to tighten and tone the skin structure.

Unlike dermal rollers which create punctures that micro-tear the skin, the Eclipse Micro-Pen creates channels at controlled depths into the epidermis and dermis at a 90 degree angle. This means the needle enters the skin and exits without causing micro tearing for optimal collagen stimulation and healing. The mechanical action of the device stimulates the body to produce a natural healing response that triggers the release of growth factors and fibroblasts the improve the overall quality and integrity of the skin. The Eclipse Elite device allows for customized depths from 0.01mm-0.25mm to ensure maximum results. To enhance the treatment, topical serums or gels can be applied, such as hyaluronic acid or PRP, to enhance the skin rejuvenation and healing.

Immediately after the treatment, the skin will have a mild pink appearance that can last for up to 72 hours. Depending on the goals of the treatment and the area, some mild flaking may occur within the first few days.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel helps by removing the top layer of dead skin and debris to reveal beautiful glowing skin. Great for helping to reducing acne scars, redness, and even spots of hyper pigmentation. It’s best to book your appointments 4-6 weeks from the last to ensure you are giving your skin enough time to fully heal between treatments.

Chemical peels involve medical grades acids which can have a “spicy” feel during the treatment, but should not be painful. Depending on the goals, the strength of the peel can be increased. This is important to discuss with your provider to ensure you are both on the same page in terms of treatment goals and strength.

After your treatment, your skin will be sensitive to the sun so make sure you are not exposing your face to the direct sunlight. The treated area will be red for 48-72 hours after the treatment. Between the 48-72 hour mark, your skin will begin to flake and the dead skin will naturally start to shed. This is where you may use a mild exfoliator to gently remove the excess dead skin from your face. Do not use an aggressive exfoliator as this may damage the new layer of skin.
