Suffering From Poor Digestion?

Digestive health is more than just bowel movements. It is about how you digest your food, absorb nutrients and how it all effects the rest of the body. Did you know that majority of your serotonin is produced in the gut?! If you digestive system isn't working properly, the amount of serotonin in the body goes down and your mood will decrease.

A common term frequently used is leaky gut, but what exactly does this mean? It refers to the lining of the digestive track allowing particles that would not normally gain access to the blood stream to enter causing inflammation and other systemic symptoms.

Common Signs Your Gut Isn't Working As It Should

1. You wake up feeling bloated or you experience bloating throughout the day

2. Your bowel movements fluctuate from running to hard

3. GERD or heart burn is a common occurence (daily or weekly)

4. You burp frequently (not just from carbonated beverages)

5. There is pain with eating

6. There is pain after eating

7. Specific foods cause you digestive disturbances

8. You experience lots of gas

9. Skin problems such as acne or redness

10. Inflammation throughout the body

Where Do I start?

A great first step is to speak with your naturopathic doctor about your symptoms so they can get a clear understanding. Depending on the severity or types of symptoms they may suggest a food sensitivity test (FST) or an allergy test for gluten or dairy. This will help to rule in/out specific foods that could be cause the digestive symptoms.

What Foods Are Tested With the FST?

A basic panel will test 120 of the most common foods consumed in North America. Advanced panel will look at over 200 foods. Some of the foods tested are: gluten, dairy, casein, whey protein, peanuts, egg yolk, egg, white, corn, and so much more.

Is The FST Covered By Extended Benefits?

Some extended benefits do allow testing while others unfortunately do not. The best route is to check with your provider.

Can An FST Be Done On A Newborn?

We don't test on newborns but if your baby is experiencing digestive issues an FST test can be conducted on Mom to determine which foods are causing digestive issues. If Mom is still breast feeding, these IgG markers will pass through to baby leading to the symptoms such as colic.

When Should You Be Re-tested?

IgG markers can stay in the body for up to a year so if you are looking to re-test, you need to wait a minimum of 365 days to ensure your body has cleared out the IgG markers.
